Commission a Work
Guidelines to help you plan a custom portrait, landscape or sculpture.
Things to consider
Subject
Why this subject? Heirloom or historical interest, great affection for the subject, or a gift for an occasion such as a retirement or anniversary.
Style
Classical representational, abstract expressionism, impressionism, photographic or cubist; colour or black & white; mass or line.
Media
Often determined by style, purpose and where the work will hang: traditional and alkyd oils, acrylics, soft pastel, oil pastel, oil sticks and slicks, charcoal, graphite, watercolour, gouache, water-soluble pencils, inks and pigment powders. Short deadlines may call for fast-drying media; lightweight supports may be needed if the work will travel by air.
Size & cost
Size depends on the display space. Cost depends on media (oils typically cost more than watercolour; full colour more than black & white), support, matting, framing and varnishing — but above all on the artist’s time and skill.

Landscapes
Similar in price to portraits depending on complexity. Landscapes without figures are approximately half the cost of a portrait; add $100 per figure and $100–400 per building.
Sculpture
Prices vary with size and complexity; $450–1,200 is a starting price for table-size sculptures.
How it works
These are guidelines only — contact Joanne by phone or email for an initial quote. A firm quote follows an interview to describe the artwork and agree on time and costs. For extensive pieces a deposit and instalments may be required, with the balance on completion.
